previously on delos! so we have a girls day/boys day. so while the girls are getting cozy on the boat with cookies and massages, the boys get drunk with punjabi man. on their crazy mission to get our permit to visit the island. hey sleepy heads! it's time to look at elephants sleepy heads! babsie's! elephant time. huh? elephant time. are you ready? time for elephants man. okay!!! manskraft! frida! it's time for elephants.
yeah. are you guys awake? yep. hey snoozer. do you want to go see elephants? it is hot today. but, we're gathering our stuff which seems to take forever with 7 people on this little boat. but we're nearly ready. we're gonna go in. hopefully we're going to see some wild elephants. we're ready! come on troopers. in the dinghy. we're going to see some elephants.
maybe. i think we're gonna get guided by armed guards. just in case they charge us. it'll be sweet. one of the largest island sancturies declared in the year 1985 with the objective of protection and propagation of elephants. hello! we went to myanbunder yesterday. yes, you got the permission right? yeah. good morning, how are you. hello sir. nice to meet you. ahh the magic... document.
where are you from? america. so before we could walk anywhere they had to make sure we got the right permit, and that all the paperwork was in order. so we held our breath just hoping we had everything they needed. i know we got back to the boat late. sorry you have to leave later in the evening. yeah, yeah cause we have to leave tomorrow. given permission for one day. yep, yep, yep. so we can only be on the island today. yep. some more discussion took place but we seemed to be all good.
we look like a bunch of weirdos. delos looks so pretty out there. and the rules are like. it's a jungle. the elephant is a wild elephant actually, ok! it may react out of nature. so what we need to do if it chases you or something does some you know. some naughtiness you need to climb up the tree or you need to run zig-zag. hope you understand. your safety is the most priority for us. that's the reason why we carry this thing guns and everything. climb up a tree! yeah. so with those encouraging words we set off. it was about a two hour hike to the other side of the island. and i defenitely felt both nervous and excited.
to walk into this jungle knowing wild elephants roam free here. not speaking good english. i speak a little bit english. okay that's okay. no problem. hey everybody woo-hoo! so this was our team. i don't think they get so many visitors here. so quite a few of them were more than happy to walk with us. but our guides were walking very fast. and after a while i got the feeling they didn't want to meet any kind of wild elephants, but were actually really scared of them. and tried to avoid any kind of a encounter as much as they could. a bit unfortunate
but walking through the jungle was still really amazing. big fella tree! isn't it awesome? it's like hallowed out. i know it's so cool. so apparently we have 20 minutes left before we get to the west side of the island. so, we're blasting through and karin lost the undersides of her shoe. it's quite a nice track but it's sweaty. oh this is elephant yesterday night. early morning, maybe 3 or 4 o'clock.
okay. so we've got evidence that they've been here in the morning. ohhhh. that's perfect. oh it's nice and cold! the swim was super refreshing and the water was even a little bit cold. we're at the west coast of interview island you can see the whole reef has ben lifted out of the water. from the 2004 earthquake. all that was really good coral at one point.
and now it's dry and above water. and no sign of elephants. yet.... aye yes. well, yes we've seen poo. there's elephant poo. over there. we're going to turn around and walk back the way we came. we didn't see any elephants but that's okay. better to not see elephants then see them chained up. and you know there's elephants out there cause there was poop everywhere. i really, really, really enjoyed that walk. i was like, looking down my feet, look at all the leaves. especially when it started to rain. that was sooo nice. i really missed walking.
you know? yep. it's nice to swim and do other stuff but walking is such a.... it's such a nice feeling. these guys were super cool and after the walk we got challenged to a volleyball match. later on that evening we hung out with these guys a little bit more. after hearing their stories of what the elephants are capable of and what they actually witness at night we began to understand why they weren't too keen on tracking these elephants through the forest. and may have actually guided us away for our own safety. it's so early. it's like 5:30 in the morning. it's not very often that we're up this early, but one of the guys that works at this camp on interview
island is a yoga instructor. and we figure, why not? it would be really, really cool to do yoga with a proper yoga instructor from india. in india! so we're coming into the beautiful mangroves and go do some yoga. good morning! good morning. good morning. ready to do some yoga. we finished our yoga session this morning we went back and got the rest of the crew and some barracuda or jack, i'm not sure as a gift for them and they're gonna make us some breakfast. so we're really excited! we're gonna have some cha pati.
so we got um... a nice breakfast and now the guys are cutting up some coconuts. and they're massive and they're pretty strong and they cut it up and now we can take it to the boat. delicious! so they are also climbing for some fruit. i think it's jack fruit. inside is the cashew nut. what?!?! this is the cashew nut tree. is this the cashew nut? yes. what you do on the yacht is just keep it in the heat for 4 or 5 days. so it's inside this one. it was really cool to see, and i had actually no idea that cashew nuts grew like this.
none of the guys had ever been on a yacht before. so to thank them for their awesome hospitality we piled into maggie and took them out to go see delos. they were a cool bunch of dudes. really cool. bye bye! bye guys! see you later. see you. he gave us some movies as we left. yeah, i saw that. some bollywood films. we've got indian music. i'd say we did interview island pretty well. first time those dudes have ever been on a yacht so that was cool to show them. now we're off to port blair. gonna go around the south side of the island. to kind of go around and up to port blair. and hit the internet and then we're out. i'll say one thing- manskraft is becoming one hell
of a seamen. i'm fucking freestyling here man. i have no idea what i'm doing. no, you're doing good just half-hitch that shit onto itself. hold on josje- what is that? i mean it's kind of a good but awful. what is it? this is the fruit that the cashew... who knew that cashew nuts grew on top of these little.... things there but you take those off then you dry them in the sun. then i think you open them and then you just eat the cashew nut inside. but this is the fruit. and i don't think you eat the flesh but you like suck the juice out. it makes your mouth real dry. it's not for me.
we found a spot all of a sudden it went to like under one meter and there was reefs around us. this is a good course no more port. so we've taken brady up the mast to see if we can find a clear way out. 7 meters! 7. okay hold there on the winch. 10 meters. okay. we kind of hit the ground i think a little bit, like nudged it. it went from like 15 meters to 0. so brady's up the mast and he's trying to kind of keep like more of a birds eye view. which helps. i would say just cut to port bri. port about 30 or 40 degrees. so hopefully we will through a channel and we don't have to turn around and go all the way around.
how's it look brady? it's okay we're finally in a bit deeper water now. but there's a lot of weird sand channels that come off these two islands. so... we'll be good. hopefully we get through before this squall comes in. yeah. i don't like it when it's this shallow. scary. and there's a squall behind us. too. so if this squall hits and we're in here i think we'll just have to anchor. cause it will destroy the visibility. we're in 15 now. it looks like we made it into deep water and didn't get caught by any
rain or lightening or anything. that was lucky. i think it's going to start raining soon. yeah. yeah. we just have this one point to go around and we should be in like hundreds of meters instead of 10... or 2.... good job everybody! what do you think breeyawn? ohh man, come take a look at this. i'll show you what i think. this is where we were just cruising through, and then all of a sudden we were like ahhhhh... ahhhh.... we had to do a couple loup-de-loos. the depth meter was reading 0 for a while. which means we were really close to hitting something. but we didn't. we worked it out.
got out. now we're in 30 meters which is nice. we just have to get out here. and we'll turn a little bit to port. and then we're clear. i think the seasons are changing. we got nice blue skies ahead of us. and behind us that beast. nasty. lot's of lightening. get ready to get wet! hej hej bloggen! hello blog. hello blog! i'll just fix my hair.
they're like yeah. so the squalls are coming in. nope, they have not come in. they have left. and so with it passing there's been no wind. it just died down. so we decided to turn the engine. take the sails in, turn the engine on, and now we are motoring south. on our way to port blair. hey browski i got a sundowner for you. oh look at that nastyness. fresh out of the bilge. i see pubes, sand, volcanic dust and leg hair. and i think those are eyelashes.
it gets everywhere brian. the pubes get everywhere. thank you. oh yeah! nothing beats the first sip. ahhhh. um hm. that and a beautiful sunset. just finishing my night watch. have had very little wind. i had to take in the sails and start the engine because it's like 1-2 knots right now. but it's been really calm and really nice and i have a beautiful sunrise behind me. so it's good. it's like 5 o'clock in the morning. it's really cool and nice
weather. we'll be in port blair tomorrow in a few hours. exciting! up next! we arrive back in port blair. meet our new friend sontosh, and enjoy some local culture. born seaman. i wanna get rained on again. sweating balls over here. you're clean as a whistle! gross brady. it's real weird man. it's too early!
